History of Manitoba Prairie Quilters

This year, 2013, marks the 30th anniversary of Manitoba Prairie Quilters. We are happy to realize that many of our original members are still active in the quilting community. But we also have many other members who have joined along the way. On this page we will gather historical information on the guild so that all can see (or remember) where we have come from.

Honouring Past Presidents - At our 30th anniversary meeting on February 13, 2013 Helen Maslowski used this slide show as we paid tribute to our past presidents. Our first president, Judy Gowron, began with a brief history of the guild.

Quilts In Women's Lives - On October 13, 1982 a group of quilters met at the Centennial Public Library in Winnipeg to discuss the idea of creating a guild for quilters in Manitoba. On the program for that evening was a screening of the award winning documentary Quilts In Women's Lives portraying the stories of 7 quilters. We've linked here to an excerpt from that film.
