QR 2018 Raffle Quilt

Quilt Reflections 2018 will include the raffle of a spectacular quilt called “Autumn Beauty”. MPQ member Joan Dupuis-Neal coordinated all aspects of making the quilt from purchasing the fabric, developing the pattern on EQ7 (inspired by a photo of “Rob’s Quilt” by Kathy Martin), to designing and stitching out the machine embroidered label. Sixteen other members of the Southend Quilters satellite group assisted in making blocks, stitching some of the 200+ hand appliqued leaves, and the binding. “Autumn Beauty” was custom quilted by Kathy Schwartz, owner of Tamarack Shack Long Arm Quilting.
2018 Raffle The size of the quilt is 78” x 93” and has an appraised value of $2,500.00. The raffle quilt will be displayed at various venues throughout Manitoba including quilt shops.  Proceeds of the raffle are used to provide judges, workshops and a banquet speaker for the Quilt Show, with any leftover revenue applied to MPQ Guild workshops.  Without revenue from the Quilt Raffle, we would not be able to hold these events.  Please show your support by selling tickets. There will be a prize for the top 3 sellers.

Tickets are $2.00 each and are available from MPQ members or by contacting Judy Stupak at 204 261-9393 or by email at raffle@manitobaprairiequilters.ca. Only 5000 tickets will be sold. If there are any tickets still available, they will be for sale at the Quilt Show. The draw date is Sunday, April 8th, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.  It will be held at Canad Inns Polo Park, 1405 St Matthews Ave. Winnipeg. Every ticket holder has the right to witness the draw (License #LGA-3993-RF).

Quilt Reflections 2018 Quilt Challenge

St. Matthews Maryland Ministries Programs

For each Quilt Reflections Show, members of Manitoba Prairie Quilters (MPQ) are challenged to create a wall quilt/ item from an assortment of fabrics. A local organization is chosen for each quilt show to receive the funds from the auction of these quilts. Our chosen quilt challenge organization goes to St. Matthews Maryland Ministries Programs.

This year there was one fabric – Fairy Frost in white and a star button plus the theme for this Quilt Challenge is Christmas or Hanukkah.

For this challenge there will be a ribbon awarded in each of the following categories:

  • Workmanship

  • Creativity/use of fabric

  • Innovation

The wall quilts become the property of MPQ and will be displayed at Quilt Reflections 2018. Entries will be photographed and may be used in the MPQ newsletter, on the MPQ website, or for other promotional purposes. The quilts also can be used to promote the quilt show by the St. Matthews Maryland Ministries Programs in their newsletter and website.

They will be sold by silent auction with bids closing at 3:00 pm on 8th of April 2018. All entries have a reserve bid of $30.

We are looking forward to the wonderful, colourful and creative quilts our members can make for this event. Thank you to all who are planning to participate in this challenge.
